After ordering and receiving 4 portlights from Sailnet, I finally had the time to install them. The 8X18 and the 7X15's had 1 7/8" spigot lengths. Today I removed one 5X12" and when I removed the replacement from it's box, it had a 2 3/4" spigot length! I thought I had ordered a 1 7/8" spigot. I have been looking and can not find a 5X12 with a spigot shorter than 2 3/4". Any suggestions? Has anyone ever cut a spigot to reduce the length?

Belt sander

Danny: Just take a belt sander to the unit and it will be the exact size that you want. You could also start with a grinder and finish up the the sander.

I've done nine of them

The instructions are on Beckson's web site. They have several good tricks. I would use a bandsaw for initial trimming and then a belt sander. A BENCH model, not a HAND-held sander. I used a table saw for my initial cutting. NOT good. I had to stay too far away from my cut-line to avoid ruining the port. Then my sander took FOREVER to trim down to the final fit. Again, be sure to follow the beckson.com instructions. Ports sure look a lot better when they are trimmed to a flush fit.

What's a spigot?

Sorry guys; have to ask: what's a spigot? and what are the dimensions you're referring to (in the same vein as Bill Cosby's Noah "what's a cubit?"). Just for that day, down the road, when the rest of us get to replace a portlight. Thanks.

The spigot is the part of the port that passes

through the cabin to the outside. The thicker the cabin, the longer the spigot needs to be. It's the part that you look through, with or without the lens in place.

reducing spiqot

I made a jig, mounted the window under the jig at the height I wanted and then use a router with a straight bit. Worked great and quick and did 4 other windows. Sorry I didn't think to take pictures.
