Hi all - I have another Mast wiring question: Has anyone just used the aluminum mast as a ground for the negative side wiring on the mast lighting? (anchor light, spreader lights, steaming lights). It just seems easier to run single + wired up and then gorund everything to the mast itself. Thanks - Rob

reliability?

I have no experience at all with this, but it seems to me that you'd be setting yourself up for reliability on par with trailer lights -- with which I have had experience.

Rob, can't you hear that clicking sound?

It's the flood of responses coming to tell you why that's such a bad idea. It really is!

I Figured so...

I thought so....also trying to pass the time at my desk with ideas!!! LOL. I will do the job right with seperate + and - runs up the mast :)

while you're at it -

Throw a couple extra runs up to, in different colors and keep a list of what runs are used, that way you already have the wires there in case you want something else. Don't know how many times I've run wires figuring I had everything covered only to find out later I had to do it again because of some gotta-have. KEN.

The best reason not to....

If you make the aluminum mast part of your electrical circuit, you'll only increase the viability of a gavonic reaction between the different metals in the mast and the associated fittings. Not something you want to do.
