Another "identify this part" thread.

In the process of building another spinnaker pole, my neighbor,(on a San Juan 30), donated this pole end. He left in onboard the boat in my absence; and myself, nor anyone else has had any dealings with such a thing. I was wanting the hooked end, that attaches to the mast, but short of lashing this thing on.......I give up.
I hate to be rude, and give it back, but if I can't use it...

Anybody?

That is a jumper strut or reaching strut end fitting..

Used on a short, separate strut to get a better lead for the spinnaker pole.

Well, that was simple enough. It never occurred to me to be anything other than what it was presented as. I hated like anything to ask the fearless leader, of which the spinnaker is her forte. Not humble enough I guess...

I got one of those...

on one end of the pole I got for free to use as a whisker pole.

Certainly can be used on the outboard end of a whisker pole, but it'll need a regular hook on the mast end to keep it from rotating..

That is the outboard end of a reaching strut, used to hold the spinnaker guy outboard of rigging, lifellines and stanchions when the pole goes forward while reaching. The inboard end of the strut attaches to the mast and the the strut is often lashed to the stay to maintain proper height.

By the way, it's NOT for the C22..
