The angle of the dangle

Yep everyone seems to get the gist of it. I attach both the jib and spin halyard to the gin pole. Place the pole in the mast and pull up both halyards untill they are of similar tension and so that the pole leans to the back of the yacht. The angle??? Well when standing to the side I guess the top of the pole would be pointing at about 2 o'clock.. That will def give you enough "room" between the blocks so that you can pull down tight with the mainsheet.

Thanks Mark!

Great advice Mate! You saved my butt a year or so ago with some emergency mast raising advice as a hurricane (cyclone to you) was bearing down on me. Thanks AGAIN for your help. BrianW

Gidday Dave

Mmmm Yes my explanation was a clear as mud! Standing on the port side looking towards the starboard side one would cast their eyes up to the gin pole and observe that it (the pole)should be leaning towards the stern (back)of the yacht. :)

Gidday back t'ya Mark

I just LOVE to be a royal PITA whenever I can! Not to worry, I read through mud! Michael and Kelli (SOLING42), color me challenged, I never considered leaving the boom on! I didn't get it that way, and my "instructor" didn't, so like a good sheep, I continue to add a little extra cursing time to my launch protocol. Does anyone else out there do this? No worries? (that's for you Mark)
