Another Genoa Question

I bought this boat last year from someone who had it in storage for the previous 15 years. There is a new (never used) Pineapple Genoa that came with the boat. I only flew the original sails (in excellent shape!) last year. When do you use the Genoa sail. I live on a large mountain lake where winds can pop up. My 20 did fine on the originals but since I have the Gennie, I want to use it. I have no roller furling on the boat.

Big Sails

Bill -Its pretty simple in theory thought can get confounding at times. If your boat is not going hull speed in the prevailng wind conditions because its too calm, step up. If your boat is either heeling too much or beginning to get hard to control, step down - obviously its better to do this before the boat gets out of control. You'll learn to feel it. You'll learn to do headsail changes quickly but at first in particular always hedge toward using the smaller sail.Justin - O'day Owners' Web
