Hi everyone! Anyone's marina/yacht club doing something fun tonight? Who's got the best entertainment? We used to have wild parties, lots of naked women, wine, song, I could go on ad infinitum! Now all my rowdy friends have settled down, ninety-proof is now beer and pizza! What's the world coming to if you can't smile a little, right?

Sat and sipped scotch with an old friend. Probably sail Sunday for a while. Yacht club died- every one went cruising, or died :(

Catalina 270 255 Wabamun. Welcome to the marina
Watched the schedule of CBC, the national broadcaster, for any indication that they would even acknowledge the representation of sailing, which apparently isn't an Olympic sport. Again.
Or so the broadcasting brainwash would have us believe.

If you were a small boat sailor would you really want to sail in Rio waters?

Friday, Saturday nights, and Sunday afternoons, the pub at my marina has bands on the dock behind the pub, so the party is on! We can either sit on the boat or head up to the bar. We can also go 2 blocks into town to another pub that has bands, excellent barbecue, Roosterfish Brewing Co, and a big crowd. This weekend, the town is hosting the Nascar at the Glen race, so the crowds and parties will be everywhere!

This is a picture of the pub, and the white tent is where the band plays on the dock.
Our marina, the community of Watkins Glen, and the yacht club are all active and a lot of fun.
We used to have our boat in Allen Treman marina in Ithaca, but there was no "community" feel there, so we moved.

Hey Ag, that's what I'm talking about! That looks like THE place to be.
It is a nice lake and community. Everything you could need is within walking distance, and the marina has mostly sailboats

Here's something I just got from a friend-

"Charlie Jones Thanks Charlie. I made it to the 1976 Olympic Trials sailing a Tornado catamaran. The stink of 1976 Olympic politics forced us into the boat shop for a month just prior to the trials. We finished 4th if my memory is correct. We were forced to adjust the hull shape due to a revised interpretation of the measurement rules thanks to Reg White and his buddies on the IOC board. We should of been practicing instead of fairing a new hull shape. In 1980 President Carter thought boycotting the Olympics was the right thing to do just a month before the trials. Most American athletes were amateurs and after 4-8 years of hard work we all got screwed. SO... when Costas starts talking about how great the IOC is, my stomach turns."

Spent last pm at an indoor/outdoor dinner and cocktail party on a lawn overlooking Cutchogue Harbor. Raw bar with endless oysters and clams and cooked shrimp. Cocktails $2 ea. Dinner was the famous Cutchogue Fire Department Barbecue chicken, and Lobster, farm to table corn, salads and wine. Pie with ice cream for dessert. Eating was family style at picnic tables inside the historic Pequash Club - a shack on the beach with a fire place, wood stove, kitchen and seating. No finished walls and a wood floor. Windows were open for fresh sea breeze. Nice local group of people. It's a North Fork thing.

Previous marina had nothing. Not even a picnic table. New marina has an indoor bar, outside Tiki hut/bar, entertainment Fri., Sat., Sun. Raw bar in the evenings and a pool. If my boat was big enough, I'd just live there.

My marina is in my back yard. Cocktails on the lanai and a dip in the pool when we all get right and tight

what marina is that?
It's a small marina attached to a hotel here in New Port Richey. Frequented by local boaters with a mix of non boaters and hotel quests. Like a small yacht club but without the dues. Going to have to change the hailing port on my avatar, I guess.
