There was a long discussion re: dingys a while back & I didnt see anything about the fold boats. Im looking at a folder from Porta-Bote which is 8feet long & folds to a 4 inch width. It takes a 5hp motor & is made of propophelene (sp?) It has 2 seats & a rather high profile. Has anyone had any experience with this boat? Specifically how it would handle in rougher water. They also claim its much more stable than the regular zodiac types. Thanks in advance..Price is around $1300!

I can't recall seeing any negatives about them except for a modest capacity (CG rated at only 445 lbs for the 8 footer) and cost. With the high sides it should be nice and dry, although the nose tapers down a bit.
I ended up buying a water tender 9.4 from West Marine for $500 with no shipping costs...just pick it up at West. By the way they are on sale for $500 now ($100 off).

I have never owned one but have ridden in one many times. I personally didn't like it. It seemed . The floor and the sides flexed as water passed under it or hit it. I didn't have a secure feeling in it but the owners used it daily for at least a year and they were live-aboards in Pourto Escondito Sonora. They did replace it after that with something else however.

We have one that we use on a lake. It rows pretty well, as advertised. However, I'm told that basically it won't get you in and out of surf, if you're thinking of using it for that.
