I could use some advice setting up my 1987 P 39-2 CB for the Annapolis-Newport Race and the Annapolis to Bermuda Race. I have owned my 39-2 for 2 years and have done some coastal Atlantic sailing to NJ and overnight racing in the Chesapeake but this is another world of preparation (and regulations) If anyone has done the Annapolis-Newport, Newport-Bermuda or Annapolis-Bermuda in the past and can share, I'd love to have your experience. As you know the number of safety modifications is overwhelming. Specific questions include adding a trysail track (I have a deep third reef but the race rules require a trysail), securing the hatchboards, placement of the interior manual bilge pump, etc. I already have jacklines and numerous handholds, securing points for my overnight/ocean trips.

Probably have similar constraints on interior space except that the Bavaria has a couple more inches of beam. A place to put the second manual bilge pump where it can be gotten to easily and operated easily w/o being in the way all of the time. I suppose the pumping mechanism could be anywhere, like fixed to a bulkhead or table leg, as long as the intake hose drops into the bilge. Insert the pump handle when you need to get it pumping. Be nice if you did not have to bend over to pump. Since the boats do not seem to be required to carry electric pumps, might hook the manual up to the discharge hose already installed for the 12-volt pump; stow that one for reuse when the boat is left.

Thanks KG. Bavaria is an underappreciated boat
Not by me! Mine is an "owners version" of the Bavaria 38 with what I think is a better layout below than in some of the other models more squarely directed toward the charter industry, esp. in the Mediterranean. But, there are a few goofy things Bavaria does that cheapen the overall quality a bit. However, when people start seeing six large stainless steel horn cleats-bow, midships, and stern; 6 winches (two for spinnaker), deep lead keel, beautiful mahogany joinery below, teak decks and cockpit, Yanmar diesel w/ saildrive, etc., one wonders how bad can it be?
