It doesn't hurt to windpw shop, does it?

Doesn't hurt anything but it costs money.

The air and the sunsets are free.

You bet!

The Admiral says it will be a good joint birthday trip. $35 per for VIP is well worth the money. Plus all the fun...

All I have to do now is get the days off approved, find a place to stay, get a pair of airline tickets and find a rental car.

Randy - check the waterfront Marriot

Sometimes they have last minute cancellations and it's $$$$ but it's pretty convenient (you literally step out the door into the show). Not a bad restaurant in there either - plus if you like Pussers Rum Painkillers you'll be all set ;D
Also the Country Inn and Suites is nice. It's about a 10 minute ride outside of town but they have a free shuttle that takes you to the show and picks you up.
Actually, you probably wouldn't need a rental car at all.

I plan on going

I plan to go on Friday. Should we set up a time and place for SBOer's to meet and say Hi? Last year it was the Good Old Boat Magazine booth at 14:00 on whatever day you attended. I think only Friday had a group gather at the appointed time & place.

I've never been to an Annapolis Boat Shoe that I haven't learned something or picked up new ideas that have been useful on my boat.
If nothing else, it's good to keep abreast of what's new,... not just reading about it in a magazine, but actually seeing things.... so that you can talk intelligently about what's going on and what's comming.
Ross, the air and the sunsets may be free, but "if you rest, you rust".
(And they sell new stuff to clean off rust there) :)

Be there on Thursday

Will be checking things out and stopping by to harass Steph and Brian. Joan and I leave for Berkeley, Ca on Friday morning at 7:00, I might be awake. Ivan and will try to meet up. Last year Warren tried to get everyone together at the Good Old Boats booth. Want to try again????

probably not

I consider early October to be the last precious remaining good weekends to be out on the water in NJ. I don't like doing anything else on a nice day when I could be out sailing - especially someplace where I'm looking at, and talking about sailboats. Am I alone in this mindset?
Too bad the show isn't later in the year!

Be there Thursday

For an anniversary present, my wife got me passage on the schooner Virginia. I leave for Annapplis from Norfolk arriving Wednesday, do the show on Thursday.

VIP day??

What is the value or advantage for a standard issue sailor of paying more for a ticket on VIP day? Do I get something extra? Less crowded maybe? I do a lot of industrial trade shows and we do things like owner's day or buyer's day as opposed to general admission days. Is VIP day the same type of arrangement? I do need to buy some gear, and my guess is the best buying day is the last day, but then I could be guessing wrong, some stuff will be sold out, and some vendors may pack up early. I attended only once before, but do plan on attending this year.

VIP day = less crowd

personally, I've alwys found it to be a much more pleasant experience when it was not crowded. Weekends at the boat show remind me too much of Main Street in the Magic Kingdom during school vacation week

During the 1990's while I was rebuilding Bietzpadlin

Nancy and I went on VIP /Trade day and ordered tickets in advance with our business name for about 3 bucks each. You get the same treatment on any of the less than 50 footers as the guys with VIP name tags.

Here's a photo of the schooner 'Virginia' if you haven't seen it before. She was on her way to Annapolis when this was shot off the Great Wicomico in Chesapeake Bay.
