Angus has closed it's doors abruptly. Any thoughts on this? How do we Hunter owners in Toronto get warranty service? Parts?

Will Hunter be represented at the Toronto Boat Show this year?

Hunter will certainly be looking for another dealer in your area. Usually an existing dealership will step up and take the brands Angus represented.

True North Yachts is now the Hunter dealer in Port Credit. Don't know much yet who is the principals etc. Hunter still has floor space at the Toronto Boat Show, so hopefully it will be filled. I don't know if the dealer or Hunter or both pay for the show space and perhaps it was prepaid. There is probably several boats in Port Credit previously to ship to the show??

I'm only guessing, but will let you know next Saturday when I go.

From the Boating Industry Canada website

On Thursday November 20, 2008, Al Patterson, President of Angus Yachts of Toronto in Port Credit Harbour, Ontario announced the decision internally, to close the business effective immediately. A corporate announcement of details is expected to be released soon.
It is believed that economic conditions were to blame in spite of the dealer’s excellent record of sales achievement with the power and sail boat brands they represented.
Angus Yachts of Toronto has won awards for the past several years from Hunter Sailboats and more recently from Cruisers Yachts; two of the dealer’s leading brands. The closure of Angus Yachts of Toronto reflects internal situations and not the viability of the boat lines the dealer had represented. New dealer arrangements are already in progress and announcements are expected shortly from all of Angus’ key lines.
Also, the Clift’s yacht brokerage organization which had become a part of the Angus organization following the recent death of David de Eyre, involved several independent Certified Professional Yacht Brokers, who are still actively working in the business and will continue to market their client’s boats.
Angus clients are being contacted as well. Industry sources suggest that an orderly wind up is expected.

I recieved this email from "Toronto Yacht Services" just before Christmas. They will apparently be taking over the service part of Angus's business. I couldn't find Hunter or Jenneau listed on the Toronto Boat Show website.

....With another boating season gone by and already a distant memory, we find ourselves busy with holiday shopping and spending time indoors with family and friends. Occasionally, we may peruse a magazine or two showing the newest boats and marine technology, while others may find time to read a book about high seas adventure. Regardless of how we fill our days, we all anxiously await the start of the next boating season, and for all of the loyal customers who depended on Angus Yachts to fulfill their boating needs, you may be wondering who you can rely on to care for your boat and to pick up where Angus left off.

In order to fill that void, we have joined together to create Toronto Yacht Services and we are committed to providing our customers with the personalized, reliable service you deserve. Warren Whitmore, a former Angus CSM, will spend most of his time in the office heading up administration and planning. Jon Moles, a former Angus technician who is very skilled in Power and Sail, will be crawling around bilges, repairing engines, installing instruments as well as performing a variety of other services to meet your needs. Mark Goodyear, the former Angus CSM and lead sailboat technician, will be in a similar role focusing on our sailboat clients, maintaining, repairing and solving any problems you may encounter.

Our combined knowledge and years of experience promises to offer unparalleled service and maintenance to our clients. We are a fully equipped mobile service company capable of performing any installations, services and yacht maintenance that you may require in a courteous and professional manner.

We can also provide Volvo-Penta warranty service through our strategic alliance with Pat Walker , the former Angus Orillia CSM and certified Volvo-Penta technician, who has recently secured a Volvo-Penta dealership with Starport Landing in Orillia.

Please check out our website, www.torontoyachtsesrvices.com, for more about us and the services we provide. As this is the initial release of the website, please check back often for updates.

We sincerely wish you all the best this holiday season and wish you a Happy New Year. We look forward to seeing you at the Toronto Boat Show this winter, or on the docks next spring.

Warm Regards,

Mark Goodyear, Jon Moles and Warren Whitmore

The floor plan does show a spot for Hunter Marine. I guess we'll see in a week. The main Hunter Marine site (FL) still shows Angus as the dealer in Southern Ontario. We received the same e-mail from Mark Goodyear. He's very knowledgeable and great to work with. Paul was their best tech guy. Not sure where he ended up. See you at the show :)

Shedding some Light

My name is Ted Grahame. Some of you may remember me as one of the CSM's at Angus Yachts. True North Yachts Inc. has become the dealer for Hunter Marine operating out of Port Credit Harbour Marina. The dealership is comprised of Allan Mestel as one of the dealer principals, John Armstrong as the general manager with Jamie Crane and one other yet to be named sales consultant. They will be up and running and representing Hunter Marine at the Toronto show. Hunter will have the 49, 45DS, 38 and 33 on display.
Mark Goodyear, Warren Whitmore and John Moles have formed Toronto Yacht Services. I do not believe they are affiliated with Hunter Marine or Jeanneau at this time.
I have joined up with Dan Moores, Pat Lewis, Zack Bolt, Luis Feriera and Paul Whealey to form Grahame Marine Services. Our intention is to pick up where we left off while with Angus. We are working with Hunter Marine and Jeanneau America both at the Boat Show and moving forward with warranty issues for current clients. We will also be continuing to offer full yacht management services as well as winterization and commissioning. Dan and I are both Raymarine certified as well as Volvo trained in diesel and gas engines. Zack and Pat probably commissioned most of your new Hunters. Luis and Paul are both exceptional in their respective fields.
We will all be working at the show and will have a presence on the Hunter and Jeanneau displays. If we miss you we can be reached at 905 483 2968 or ted@grahamemarine.com.
See you at the show.

Hunter dealer info

From Hunter Marine ( passed on through Georgain Bay HSA)

I just wanted to confirm that True North Yachts is our new Hunter dealer for Ontario and will have our full support as did Angus Yachts. The situation with Angus Yachts was very unfortunate but we believe that True North Yachts will step into their shoes and move us forward. The key people at True North Yachts are some names that you will recognize from Angus Yachts which are Allan Mestel and John Armstrong. We have many loyal customers in Canada and we want to make sure that they know we are still there to support them. Please pass on the news to all of your Hunter groups that we are back in business in Canada. We will be at the Toronto Boat Show where True North Yachts will be representing the Hunter brand.

Thanks,

Re: Hunter dealer info

Thanks for the info folks. I feel much more confidant now than I did a couple of weeks ago when I found out about Angus.

I wish Hunter Marine, Toronto Yacht Services, True North Yachts and Grahame Marine Services the best of luck in this challenging economic environment. Hopefully their respective business and technical skills will help boating in Ontario avoid a repeat of the early eighties disaster.

Dave.

Dave, it looks like there are 4 new businesses that evolved from Angus the fourth is North South Nautical Group which is people from the Clift's Marine side of things.

A lot of good talent in those groups. I wish them all well.

BTW, nice boat, what year is yours.

Yeah, we bought our 05 in 07. Could have got a lot more boat from the US in 08, but oh well, we've gotten a lot of "boat miles" of fun over the past two seasons and love the boat.
