The Rapper....

died from a single wound to the abdomen. An autoposy is going to be performed on his brain to see if there was any functioning brain cells left. His next of kin said "he was such a nice boy growing up", "we just don't know what could have made anyone want to do this to him". PS: Peter C. (everyone likes something different), I am just glad you are in Miami and I'm on the left coast. <grin>

SXSW

For yall in the know you guys, ya know that SXSW stands for "South by SouthWest" the largest music conference outside of LA. Lets just say our quiet little town will be besieged by every wannabe musician in the world over the next week. You think Rap is bad?.... you ought to hear some of this stuff! Be thankful you can retire to your sailboats and listen to your respective selections without some punk in green hair bumming a cig off of you and asking (because you were a suit) if you can get him in to see a label! He doesn't even care that your a banker. Fair winds, and good tunes! Sean

Humorless

One good way to ruin a good thread is with psuedo-intellectual political claptrap. What the hell's going on in Virginia?

Unobtrusive

We 'listen' only at anchor. The speakers are mounted in the bilge area way at the stern. We play mostly clasical piano and at such a volume that one can hardly notice there is music. It helps set the mood of peace & quiet while not being intrusive to our conversation. As for the lively debate???? Well, different kinds of music are produced so everyone can listen to what they like and they put power switches on stereos so those who don't want to listen can turn them off. Good sailing.... PS.. good discussion and was very entertaining

Music? Sailing? Together?!

...Of course! There's nothing better than sailing in 25 to 30 knots with some great tunes - if you can hear 'em! I think most people would definitely agree: It totally depends on the vibe of the day. For instance, you've been touring for a couple weeks, you come home and there's nothing better than going for a sail - and hearing only the hull slicing through the waves. Then there are those times - (it's either 5 knots or 25 knots on the Oregon coast!) - when it's a mellow day (15 - 20 knots) and you're going to weather on a port tack with Jimmy, Bob Marley or some cool tunes from the '70's (i.e. Brandy - by Looking Glass; remember?), and all is well! Music is a crucial facet to life. The ocean is music: duration of a swell (pulse), the rhythm of the tides - the sound of the wind. Dolphins, whales and seagulls sing... Our bodies have a pulse. It's part of our consciousness and sub-consciousness. So, to make a short answer long: Tunes are flowing from the Escapade at the dock, underway and at anchor! Most of the time... Smooth sailing everybody!

To each your own

Even our 9 & 11 year olds know that Jimmy Buffett and Bob Marley are best under sail, but there's as much good music to sail by as there are boats to sail. But rap at full blast at a dock would get you kicked out of our marina.
