Today at 5:57pm Pacific time a delete command misfired and instead of deleting one reply, it deleted all replies in the active forum database. Worse, it also deleted these same posts from our backup database. The best I can do is restore them from our last archive, approximately midnight last night. Put in different words, we have lost all replies posted to the site today and cannot recover them. I'm particularly bummed about this because today was truly a magnificent day in these forums. I am deeply sorry for this. Forum data is the holy grail around here and we take problems like this seriously. In the 6 years we've been running this software, I have never seen this happen before. Computers. ;{ FWIW, we have taken steps to make sure our backup data is never connected to a delete command, although that will not help us today. So, I guess there's nothing left to do but post it all over again. *yks Anyway, please accept our apologies.

Phil, you do outstanding work!

You really do outstanding work - over the last couple years that I have been following here, this has been an extremely stable, and civil place. Don't beat yourself up over a little "delete action" - hey, stuff happens. I was wondering about some of the potential, unintended consequences of adding the enhanced picture capabilities. I know that it has to take up more server space and bandwidth, I wondered if it might also open up the Pandora's box of junk photos posts(you know the type of thing I'm talking about - not Chinese Junks) that would eat up some more "moderator" time. Anyway, I for one really appreciate what you continue to keep running here, and if it matters any, I forgive you. :) Tim Brogan April IV C350 #68 Seattle

Thanks For What You Do For All Of Us

I just wish that every reader out here would now post their sincere words of appreciation for what you do for all of us. We all understand and feel your pain, and know this was nothing intentional. I have yet to discovered a site as truly helpful to me as HOW and if all who share my sentiments will reply to your post we could see a new record of replies to a HOW posting. Thanks again for all you do.

Phil: I've been on the forum since the early days, and it has always run better and worked smoother than any other board that I frequent...Thank you for what you do for the "good old Hunter" community...I think we'll all cut you some slack <g>.

Phil, As a former "dot commer" I've lost not only data, but tons of other people's $ in the process. I've recently bought my first "big boat", a First 405, and more recently have badly broken my ankle. Your forum is impressive, entertaining and educational. As a recently "grounded" sailor, I read your forum "cover to cover" nightly. Please keep up your great work. -Ryan

Just a little bump in lifes road.

I wish some of my errors were as easily forgiven as this. This forum is "life's blood" to us snowed in sailers, anything to do with sailing no matter how distantly related, helps to maintain some level of sanity during the long winter nights. I wish some of my errors were as easily repaired as this. I am truly amazed at what you are able to do.. Indeed at this time of the year you provide the "light at the end of the winter tunnel". In the 6 or 7 seven years that I have followed i on regular basis, I have received tons of help and hopefully also helped a few. All of this thanks to you Phil !! So don't worry about something like this. Heh, S... happens and all of us who benefit almost daily from your efforts do understand that. Phil, your work is truly appreciated. Thanks

You aren't the first. You aren't the last. I've was in this business for 30 years. You will survive with minor bruises to the ego. You guys do a great job here. We will all forget it in a couple of days. I was online when it happened. I was beginning to blame myself. Whew! ;D

I have not posted to the Forums in some time but yesterday I posted about a dozen comments on as many subjects. Gone. All gone. So taking cause and effect since there was no crash when I was not posting, my posts must have caused the crash.

The laws of nature also holds true for computers. Anything can happen and it usually does. Don't worry about it. This is a great web sight and it is a great resource. I have no complaints on the way this forum is run. Everyone on this forum is very helpful and has a lot to add. Don't worry about something this small happening!

Yesterday, I posted 45 responses and 12 questions. One of them (I forgot which one) had an actual workable plan for world peace and a great recipe for brownies. Are you sure it can't be recovered? Markdb
