Remember when Grady said that on Sanford and Son?
I wanted to install a combination TV/Monitor/DVD player in the boat that would be easily viewable from many locations and not end up being in the way. The solution I came up with involved a flip up, under cabinet mount.
The television is a 15" LED Supersonic with integral DVD from Amazon. The TV has a digital tuner and is full HDTV. Too bad there aren't any (yet) with integrated BluRay players. It operates on either 120V or 12V (adapters included). This makes for flexibility in viewing. There are plenty of video inputs including HDMI, and VGA to connect to computers as well as RF and analog. The size is just right to stow flat under the ledge in the cabin.
I bought a flip up mount from Amazon that I felt would work that folds up as well as swivels both horizontally and in a circle so the TV could always be viewed without being crooked. This mount was a little expensive and I see now there is something else that might fit. Installing the mount was straight forward. I had a piece of 1/4" x 2" aluminum bar. It mounts to the underside of the genoa track using the 5/16" bolt ends that protrude through into the cabin. Those bolts are spaced 4" apart, so I cut the aluminum to about 9 ", polished it up nice an drilled two holes on the centerline at 8" separation for the underside mounting. The flip up bracket mounts between the screws with drilled and tapped holes also drilled on the centerline. I bought two 5/16" nut couplers and screwed them to the protruding bolts and then used screws to attach the mounting plate. I've used this method to mount my radios and microwave oven. The flip up mount was too long to fold completely flat so I cut off 9 inches from the rod and redrilled and tapped the end so the stop screw could be used again. A collar would work too.
After mounting the TV, voila, it works great. We can sit at the table and watch comfortably. I have also hooked up the laptop and swivel it to see navigation software from outside in the cockpit. when we are done it folds up flat pretty much completely out of the way.
