Any thoughts on the Ancor 703065 battery cable stripper? http://www.ancorproducts.com/en/703065

I've tried a knife, and the Fiskar shears on larger cables, but still end up cutting a fair amount of the stranded wire. If the Ancor tool works better it might be worth having. Thanks!

I use a razor to score the insulation all the way around then bend the cable to tear the insulation along the score.

Same here. I lay the wire on a flat surface, place the knife on it, and ROLL the wire to make it a good, straight cut. a quick vertical slit to the end and - BOOM - done. That said, I am using 2/0 wire, so losing a FEW strands doesn't reduce it's function, so I don't know what gauge you are doing. Still, if you are losing enough to worry about, you could try a specialty tool.

#1/0 and #4, so it sounds like your technique should work ok. Although I must admit it does seem like a cool tool to have!!

One of those tools that will gradually sink to the bottom of your tool box never to be seen or used again.
I agree with the advice to score the jacket

Definitely a razor utility knife for me. Make sure you have a sharp blade in your knife. I do low voltage wiring for a living, and have found that the good blades like the Lenox Gold Titanium coated last almost 4 times longer than the cheap blades. Went from changing blades 3 to 4 times a day to using a blade for more than one day between changes. And if you by the 50 pack, they don't cost that much more than the junk.

I did use a coupon to buy the Harbor Freight hydraulic crimper for the new battery cables I made.
