Hunter 37.5 Port Orchard, WA
I want to replace my anchor on our H 37.5. A number of Hunter owners in our marina are using Delta. I had a Fortress on a previous boat and had a good experience. We sail Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands. I'd like recommendations.

We use a 40 pound danforth as primary...

with a 30 pound CQR as backup on our P42. Works great for us in the muddy/sandy anchorages found in the San Juan Islands. Terry

"Practical Sailor" ran a series of articles in 1999-2002 comparing a variety of anchors in a variety of conditions.. the articles were excellent. They will go a long way toward answering your questions about the pro and cons of many different anchors. Go to "practical-sailor.com" Buck

Hey, Port Orchard...

I have a 1999 Hunter 380, esentially the same hull and weight as your boat and we use a 33 lb Bruce, one hundred twenty feet of chair and two hundred feet of thre strand line. My back up anchor is a 16 lb fortress, six feet of chain and one hundred fifty feet of line. I've never used my back up. I've used this system for sixteen years (three different boats, the 380 I've had for six years. I've anchored all over the San Juans, Gulf Islands to Desolation Sound and then down in your area of the south sound. I've never had a problem with the Bruce. Hope this helps. If you have questions, write me off line. leslieblackwell@comcast.net Les

Not the size but the type

to suite the "general conditions you anchor in".And miost if not more importantly is the type and length of rhode. Ever noticed the size of anchors hanging off the front of a ship. Pretty small in comparison to the size of the ship. They rely on the amount (length) and weight of the chain to bed the anchor down.
