Need Advice! With the '88 36Cat.... what type of permanent anchor rollers are there now available? The original equipment was not intended for a permanent anchor on deck. Perhaps my next project... Thanks Rick

C36 anchor handling

Rick- I'm in Houston also - my C36 is at Watergate on Clear Lake on pier 11. I'm embarking upon a project to solve the anchor handling problem you mention. I've got all the parts and pieces - Windline anchor roller/holder, new cleats, backing plates, etc. Mine is a 1984 C36 #206 and I'm going to modify the port side of the existing bow roller (cut it off) and bolt down the new roller/mount with a spacer and backing plate. I'll have to relocate the single centerline cleat... I'm installing two, one each on either side further back. Mine will hold my 33lb. bruce on the bow ready for immediate deployment. This has been a real pain project for me - no easy answer, but I'm going to begin the cutting and installation on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 16. I'm also installing a deck/anchor washdown pump system that weekend. I may wind up having to modify the anchor locker doors to allow the chain to pass through - one step at a time! Hey Russ, keep us updated!

My '86 Cat 36 (#640) needs the same treatment! Are you going to add a windlass too? I have a 44# Bruce I'm considering installing on a roller, but fear it might be too big. Look forward to hearing how it goes... Trevor

Anchor Roller

Rick, I had the same concerns on my C36, and after a lot of research and talking to the factory, I cut off the starboard bow roller and replaced it with a URM-6 from Windline Marine. They are not listed in the catalogs, but can be ordered. I wanted the URM -6 because it doesn't have a bail mounted on the top. The URM-6 has 2 flanges on the upper end that bend inward. The flanges keep the anchor and/or rode in place, but you can also remove them by lifting straight up. The center-line cleat was not removed. I have used both a danforth and Bruce 33 on it and it has been great. It bolted in easily with backing plates. Hope this helps. Tom.
