Anchors

Anybody have suggestions on what kind of anchor to put on my 26? I just got it and the one it has is bent. I know just enough to know that's not good.

Bent is OK

I believe a 'bent' anchor would work just as well as an 'unbent' anchor. But maybe it doesn't fit in the anchor locker if it is bent. THe anchor lockers on the new Macgregors are pretty small. Blue Water Yachts in Seattle sells a special 14# Danford that does fit in the Macgregor 26X anchor locker. (206-282-4261) or www.bwyachts.com

Anchor type

Gary -The anchor your choose should be based on the type of bottom you are most frequently anchoring on, how deep the water is and what are the wind conditions. I'm not an expert, but there was a review in Practical Sailor a while ago which rated various anchors in mud and sand under varying loads. The two anchors which came out on top were called a CQR and a Barnacle. Not sure if these are the best for a 26 foot boat, but it is worth looking into.
