Anchors on a 34

I'd like to upgrade my Ground Tackle. I'm wondering what is the largest Danforth style ( I've currently got a 13S) that will fit in the Anchor locker, and what is the largest bruce, claw or plow, that will fit on the existing anchor roller.

Bruce 22

My '83 came with the Bruce 22 which fit sideways in the anchor locker. The Bruce set quickly and never dragged. Kept a 13S in the cockpit storage and never used it in 16 years.

CQR35

Keep a CQR35 on the bow Roller. Drilled two holes through the Stainless steel assembly through the CQR35. This voided the CQR warenty but if those two small holes cause my anchor to fail then the problem that caused it will be more pressing than the voided warenty. Placed quick pins through the anchor and bow assembly and it stays nicely in place. The only problem with the CQR35 and 30 foot of chain is getting it on board with out a windlass.

Bruce 33

My 34 came with a Bruce 22 and 15 feet of chain and I drug anchor and ended up in the ferry lanes my first trip. Before my second trip I replaced it with a bruce 33 and 30 ft of chain. I haven't drug since. The extra chain is probably the main reason but this combination with an 8 lb mushroom "baby" anchor on the rode to hold the chain down when the wind blows has worked great for years. The baby anchor allows you to use less chain with the same results.I was realy convinced when a 50 footer drug anchor one night in a blow. His lifelines hung up on my lifelines and my anchor held both of us.
