I am going to install an electric windlass on my 37ft CC O'Day. The installer told me I w probably need to use a vertical rather than horizontal drum. THe anchor locker is quite shallow and will require manual placement of the rode/manual. He offered two soutions. The first would be to pile the rode/chain on the deck and then store it after the ancor is up. The second, would be to create an opening in front of the anchor locker throught which the anchor chain/rode would feed. This would necessitate removing the large deck cleat on the midline bow and adding deck cleats port and starboard. Does anyone have any experience with this type of installation? Any thoughts on which system would be better? Any thoughts on a great windlass?
