Anchoring system

I sail a 1980 37' cutter, which is a fantastic boat with very few design exceptions. The most apparent is the tiny dual roller anchoring system that is integral to the roller furling headstay. It is very difficult to retrieve the anchor and line underneath the bow pulpit, especially with the rollers so close to the bow (hull). I have seen one retrofit that was homemade and rather extensive resulting in a large wooden sprit bolted through the hull. I am hoping to find other suggestions from folks who recognized the same problem and came up with other solutions. Is there a manufactured roller sprit extension that works well on this model?

I think this solution is advertised on this site. If not, an internet search will find it. The inventor hosted a forum for a while this year. David Lady Lillie

Too many options.

I carry a 35# CQR on the original rollers on my H37C. This is far from adequate and only temporary. But a hole in the shank will accept the original pin and I also secure the chain in the locker. There are a couple of regulars here on HOW who have made very nice bowsprits as you mentioned. One can be seen in the link below. An '83 in my marina has a custom welded set. Same design as original but much larger and with one roller extended further out. This allows him to carry two large anchors. And you have heard of the Kingsprit. Since I do not have the time nor resources my upgrade will be much simpler and cheaper. I will cut off one side plate of the original rollers. Then I will bolt on a larger roller that fits the CQR. Probably one of these: http://www.creativemarine.com/catalog/text/bowroll.htm And I will double the size of the anchor locker as seen in the site in the Link and at Gene's site: http://www.geocities.com/TheTropics/Cabana/7414/anklkr.html

Kingsprit: cannot locate vendor

I am interested in the Kingsprit you mentioned, but cannot find any such dealer either on this site or in a Web search. Any ideas?
