Planning to sail over to port jeff and or north port and have not been by boat in a long time. Will be meeting some friends that will be kayaking in north port, which is the better place to anchor out over night and than be able to dink into town if need to. I was told port jeff has changed and dinking to town is not easy and not very friendly tieing up the dink. So any one been to port jeff or north port recently and can advise the best spot throwing out the hook with my 5' draft over night in port jeff and north port. Nick for putting ot the hook

2005 expereince in Port Jeff

Anchored there one night in 2005. Turned left just after Green can "5," and found good water up close to shore. Stay clear of the large white mooring ball, which s for coal skows, often two in tandem. The docking facilities are not very dinghy friendly, as I recall, but I think there was a dinghy dock. The town is right there, at the dock. Kind of commercial harbor, ferry traffic. Good holding, and free, in any event.

Pt. Jeff is still nice!

It's been a couple of years...but for Pt. Jeff I think the Sewanekah YC at the eastern end of town is pretty good about letting visiting sailors use the dinghy dock. They also have moorings. In Northport...the mooring field takes up much of the good anchorage but there is an area on the NE side of the harbor where you can drop a hook then dinghy into the town. Seymour's runs the moorings and tender and they are good folks if you want to get a bit closer in.
