Need a little help regarding charted anchorage locations. Since charts for our area of NJ offer very few if any marked areas set aside for anchoring, what are my options for picking a legal place to anchor (overnight)?

Local knowlege

There are several areas North of you that sailors anchor overnight in Barnegat Bay, and I am sure there are some close to you too that are not charted. One would be Tice's shoal, good if you want to walk to the ocean. another is behind Berkley Island, North of Cedar Creek, and near Conklin Island near the mainland town of Barnegat, a lot of us anchor on the bay North of the mouth of Forked River. There is also an anchorage inside Barnegat Inlet, South of the lighthouse. Ask fellow sailors for more ideas.

Anchorages

Tom-- You are right--there aren't too many charted anchorage locations, especially in our neck of the woods. There are some protected coves, and some areas just outside the ICW that offer protection, but showing an anchor light is still the safest thing to do. By the way, what type of boat are you sailing?
