Quick question about anchor size. We have a H310......weighs about 9000 lbs. We have become 'fair weather" sailors.....we .do weekending , and a couple of longer trips each summer. We normally try to stay out of foul weather if we're anchoring for the night. At the moment we have quite a 12 KG Bruce anchor but would like to upgrade to a 15 Rocna. Do ya think this should be big enough or should we "upsize" it even more......I think a 25 would just be TOO big..???Will this require swapping out the bow roller to accommodate the larger curved shank..?????

Any opinions......( theres probably as many opinions as there are sailors )....:)

Thanx for any insight

I'll start my response with, Not another anchor thread!
You're correct that there are many opinions. That said, a 15KG Rocna should give you plenty of holding capability. How much anchor chain and rode do you have?

I don’t know about the sizing for a boat that size, but you can print a template from the Rocna site to see how it would fit your roller. You print out a few pages and tape them together to form the full size 2D representation of the anchor, and then you can transfer that to cardboard.

According to the Rocna charts the 15 kg sizes for the original Rocna, Vulcan and newer MkII are all recommended for your 31 ft boat. If you want more security, adding more chain (5/16 is recommended) would be the direction I'd take. Also consider the age and performance of your windlass for possible upgrading if you add chain. I think you're good with the 15kg.
