Anchor Windlass ideas?

Hi all,

At the risk of repeating a thread already posted (?) has anybody retrofitted their Catalina 30 with an anchor windlass? (Catalina 30, not any other boat)

We are thinking about installing a windlass in the anchor locker, so as not to clutter up the already smallish fore deck...and as the anchor locker takes up a good bit of real estate and there is a "Hump" on the port wall inside of the locker, I figure it should go there...
Anybody done it? I'm leaning towards a manual windlass, but am not too opposed to an electric other than the $$.

We dont have a bowsprit, but that shouldn't make any difference, right?

Any Ideas and thought on the matter are; as always, appreciated, and pics appreciated even more!

I am considering one too. Will like to hear how others have done this. My thought for you however is access with a manual one in the locker. How are you going get clear access for use? I would really like to install an electric one and guide the chain/rode into the locker some how. I also want I to look factory. I know they did not come that way but I want a sleep and well thought out design.

I understand that you want information specific to the Catalina 30. However, you might want to go to the Catalina 34 International site and check out the information there about installing a windless on those boats. The boats are very similar (I've owned both), and the information on that site might help you in your project. Hope this helps.
