Never easy on a smaller boat.
I put a windlass in my 336. There are photos in the photo forums. Others have done similar projects. There are two problems with putting a windlass in a 30-footer:1. There's no place for the chain to fall.2. There's no good spot to mount the windlass.I found a small chamber below the vee-berth to act as an anchor locker, and installed an aluminum pipe to carry the chain from the windlass into the locker.I also built a frame inside the existing anchor locker to hold the windlass. Since the windlass I chose was a vertical type with a capstan, I had to cut a hole in the anchor locker door to accomodate the capstan. If I had it to do over again, I would have passed on the capstan. The mods to the locker door were too much trouble relative to the minor benfits of the capstan.I use a spliced chain/rope rode, with 70 feet of chain and about 200 feet of rope behind. It is the perfect setup for a smaller boat. Try to come up with something where you don't need your hands close to the windlass to keep the chain or rope clear. Sooner or later you're going to be down a finger.Paulsv Escape Artisth336
