Hi All -

I noticed the shackle pin to my anchor was loose this weekend (shackle that attaches the chain to anchor). What would be the best way to secure the pin such that it will not turn-out? Any special wire that I should use that will not rust or cause corrosion?

Some use the thin & pliable SS "seizing wire"; others, the garden variety SS wire akin to "bailing wire." Still others, plastic wire ties.

Of course, the other option is to go with a self-locking SS shackle from Wichard. I use the Allen head pin shackle PN 1344; still check it, however, b/f deployment of the ground tackle.

There are those who mouse a shackle with just a single loop of wire through the pin hole and around the shackle. And then there are those who feel the proper way is with a figure 8, and about 3 passes.

It all depends on how well you like to sleep at anchor, I think :D

Seizing wire should be applied according to aerospace standards. You should be able to get some examples with an Internet search or on YouTube.

I use wire ties, the biggest that will fit through the hole. Get the black ones, the white don't last in the sun.

SS siezing wire.
Wouldnt trust a plastic wire tie, we have an all chain rode, why, the bottom environments we anchor in is harsh, especially so where rode meets shank. We do not trust nylon rode in this area, why would you trust a cheap plastic wire tie, especially if you stayed anchored in one spot for extended time.
