After reading what's been said here, as well as elsewhere, on anchor swivels, I've decided to replace mine with an anchor shackle. I'd need one with a pin no larger than 7/16" or 3/8". From what I'm seeing online the load rating of this would be about 3,000 pounds. Is this adequate for a Catalina 36? Any suggestions?

You can get screw pin anchor shackles rated for 4000 pounds with a 7/16 inch pin but you must read carefully. You can also get the same size rated at only 2200 pounds.
McMaster-Carr. I ordered from them on monday at 8 pm and received the package next day before noon. I don't know how they do that.
C'mon, John, how long have we/I been "preaching" about sizing anchor systems. Not just components. The sizing charts I posted somewhere either here on this board in that material you referred to, or on our C34 website. The charts were from Calder's Cruising Handbook, which included the answer to your question. I'll try to find it, but I'm back in the hospital again with the same broken leg, long, and separate story.

yes, Stu, you are completely right. But (and there's always a "but") I'm not buying a new anchor, rode, etc. I'm just getting rid of my swivel. So it seems to me that what makes most sense is to get the strongest shackle that will fit on my chain, which would be one with a 7/16" pin (since I.D. of chain is 1/2").
