I'd like opinions on the best place to store my rode (line not chain). If I leave it in the anchor locker, it gets wet when raining and stays wet in a dark compartment. If I hang it on a lifeline, it dries out but stays exposed to the sun.

Which is harder on the line?

net bag

I have mine in a net bag with the chain going to the bottom of the locker and the bag hanging from a cleat inside the locker so it does not sit on the bottom. I have 110 ft of chain so the nylon rode is seldom used except for a short piece right by the chain splice. I also hang it on the lifelines every few months so that it has a chance to dry out occasionally.

I had some of my nylon rode get pretty nasty on a previous boat when I used to store it on the bottom of the anchor locker under the chain.

We have a simple water hose hanger

in the bow chain/rode locker. The rode goes on the hose hanger, th chains gets draped over other spare anchors to keep it out of the bottom, which has a drain but could be wetter than any other area in there.

rode

I think taht UV degrading from sunlight is worse than funky green moldy stuff. At least you can clean the funky stuff, but once the rode degrades, you're done.

UV degrading

I would think that anchor rode would last for years exposed to the sun, especially in short doses. Think about your dock lines and all the UV exposure they get.

Maybe not that much sun here in Rochester, NY... Too much rain this year.
