Hi, I inspected the anchor chain yesterday for the first time since taking delivery of my 1983 PS37. I guess it's been sat in the bow for 2 years so it's pretty rusty. How do I tell if it's too rusty? Also, in trying to get it back in the locker (100' 3/4" nylon rode the 250' 3/8"HT Chain) I realize it's pretty tight in there. Tried to only use one half of the locker but ended up spilling over. Now, grated, I was doing this on land - so no rocking and rolling to knock down the piles - but I have a tough time believeing that stowage of this thing is going to be easy at any time. I'm not actually using a second anchor at this time - so I could put some of the rode in there... but if I decide to use the other side, what then??? What do you do to stow the rode/chain? Bill

After taking ownership of our "88 Ericson 34 I found the chain that has served well for over 2 years of crusing and lots of time at anchor is rust ridden. How is one to know when to replace it? Ralph

Depends on how you stow it
When you stowed the rode back into the locker, did you allow it to just fall into the locker, or did you try to neatly coil it? Coils don't work.
