Anchor locker drain

On our Hunter 36, the drain for the anchor locker is 4" above the bottom of the locker so there so always a pool of water at the bottom. I am considering putting in another drain lower on the other side. Does anyone know if there would be a problem with me doing this and why they wouldn't have put it at the bottom in the first place?

Does seem odd, as the lower drain is about 1/2" above the bottom of the locker with another 1-1/4" dia. about 24" above the bottom.

Perhaps there is not enough room for the fitting???? and 4" is the lowest they could go. I know I have 2 drains, one up high and the other about an inch above the bottom. It gets VERY narrow below the drain.
consider adding something non buoyant and non rotting to bring the bottom up to the drain. a generous mittenfull of concrete or mortar works FWIW

I'm sure the designer had it right but it is a production boat. Bill has the most sensible remedy; fill up those 4" with mortar and add some gel coat over it.

Hi, my 2003 Hunter 44DS I purchased last year had the same problem, the chain was lying in several inches of mud and water. I cleaned it out, washed with acid then glassed in the bottom up flush with the drain hole and now it is always dry in there.

I have some water sitting the bottom of our anchor locker on the 356. I did not like the chain sitting in the salt water. I put a few pieces of styrofoam scraps in there to keep the chain out of the water. The locker is quite large and so still lots of room in there.
