anchor locker drain

I recently discovered a new leak in the bow of my Oday 23. It looks like it might be coming from the anchor locker drain, or it could be the u-bolt just below it. I plan to rebed those fittings this winter. The thru-hull fitting is metal and looks like 1/2 dia. I'd like to replace it with a mushroom head, but am afraid the diameter would be too large for the stem. Any suggestions?

For the anchor locker drain I used 1/2" copper pipe. Flared the outer end just a bit and it fit right in.

I found the wood behind the u-bolt was rotten so I replaced that and reenforced it with some resin and glass matt. You will most likely need to do the same.

As far as the drain goes I found a barbed fitting at one of the box stores that fit the hose and JP-Welded it in place. Has not leaked for seven years.
