I found the source of the water in my cabin: the anchor locker drain. Water draining from the locker was somehow getting out from the lower end of the hose near the lower drain thru hull. I thought it would be a piece of cake to replace the hose or just reclamp the lower end of it at the thru hull. But when I removed the wall carpet hiding the lower end of the piping, I found that the hose is not clamped to the thru hull; it looks like it is glued or epoxied. In addition, the fitting seems to be embedded not in the hull itself, but in a wooden insert that also holds the u-bolt trailer "nose". It looks like Oday hollowed out a 1" wide by 6" long section of the hull right at the apex of the bow, and used a piece of wood as the backing plate (filling the hollow) for the trailer nose and, immediately above it, the drain thru hull for the anchor locker. Needless to say, this leaking must have been ongoing for quite some time, as the wood is completely rotten and the bolts and nuts for the trailer nose are so rusted it ain't funny. Has anyone ever come across this problem? My instinct is to use a cutting wheel, remove the bolts, and clean out the rotten wood. I would then rebed a new drain thru hull, and since I don't trailer the boat, probably fill the hollow with epoxy and forget about replacing the u-bolt. If anyone else has ever seen or dealt with this, I would appreciate the benefit of your experience; How did you fix it?
