Went for a sail w/ the admiral and our 2 little deck hands. Dropped anchor to get in some swim time. After a short while of swinging on the anchor, I went forward to make sure all was well and noticed the anchor line rubbing on the roller furling bracket. I thought about releasing the anchor and running it arould the front rail support, but decided that would best be done when not hanging on the anchor. Will it cause any problems if I do that, or am I doing something wrong to begin with? There's just a little bit of fuzz on the line from rubbing, so the line should be fine. But if I continue as is, it will make short work of the line and I'll be replacing it. What have you folks done?

Tie off the anchor line
to one of the cleats on the prow. The anchor locker opens to port so I use the starboard cleat to tie off the line. No rubbing.

On my '98 H26
...I tie off directly to the cleat. No chafe, and the cleats are so close to the bow that it doesn't sit off to one side.

The anchor line will rub on the tangs...
...if you have the CDI 4/6 drum like me. If you have a CDI FF2 drum then it rubs on the smooth part of the drum. Either way, not the best way to treat line. If it gets bad, get a chafe protector and slide it over the rode. alan

Windlass should only be used to raise or lower,
but should never be used to hold the anchor rode while on the hook. You should always cleat it off. This is better for the rode, and also for the windlass. Also, when raising the anchor, the windlass should never be used to pull the boat towards the anchor. Also motor towards the anchor, and use the windlass to take up the slack. Otherwise, get ready to replace the windlass motor frequently.
