My current light has about a 2" riser, but I think for everywhere besides directly below, the standard base would be fine. The benefit of Gunni's base is the wire notch

Yes. Pound wise and penny foolish.

1. Get legal and mount an anchor light where it is supposed to be.

2. ADD additional lights to light up the cockpit so the fools who don't look up will see you.
Dang, a bit of hostility here, colregs doesn't require a masthead anchor light just a 360 degree light somewhere visible. An led lantern hung from the main halyard 6' above deck meets the requirement as long as it is visible at 1nm. Just asking for feedback on how different folks address the issue. Half of the lights on this thread are not USCG approved but you are OK with them because they are mounted at the masthead?

I've had the marinebeam anchor light my mizzen (one less thing for a bridge to knock off). No blind spot even from a dinghy directly on the bow.

Three years and no complaints. I used a stack of three washers on the screws to give wire clearance and then spread a neat bead of caulk around the edge. As always with stainless screws into aluminum be sure to use Tef-gel or similiar.

I also love Marinebeam's "illuminator" flashlight. Incredibly bright narrow focused beam. Better than a searchlight since you can hold it so as to avoid being blinded by backscatter light reflection off the deck, sails or rigging. https://store.marinebeam.com/marinebeam-ultra-long-range-cree-rlt-illuminator/
