I've a friend that's going up! What bulb would Oday have used up there originally? I picked up a LED but it would be nice to know before hand and save a trip up the mast for my friend.
thanks all!

I replaced mine (Aqua Signal series 34 I beleive) with the Dr. LED festoon star white led replacement bulb this spring. It was a simple bulb change, just make sure it isn't wired backwards as mine was, the LEDs are polarity specific.

Before anyone says anything about uscg certs, the led is twice as bright as the incandescent bulb it replaced (as measured by my eyeball, at night), probably a result of some voltage drop going up the mast dimming the old bulb, but not the LED, but whatever the reason it is visible for MUCH farther than before, so I dont care if it has a stamp of approval or not because it works better than the bulbs that do.

Correct, but there are at least 3 different types/sizes that i know of though, and all use the generic name festoon. Conveniently the LED bulb included adapters to fit all 3. I dont know what anchor light you have on your oday, but my Hunter uses a complete matching set of nav lights, so my bow lights, stern light, and anchor lights are all aqua signal series 34 (I think, cant check at the moment, on my phone...)

Chances are good that your oday is the same, so whatever bow lights and stern light you have, they probably match the anchor light.

I'm pretty sure the anchor light on my 1985 O'Day 31 is a Lucas brand and takes the regular bayonet type bulb. I assume it is the original. I'll check it out tonight if you want

Welll it's not a Lucas. It is a Hella 2492 and takes a single contact bayonett type bulb, BA15s.
Bulb

12V / 10W BA15s included

Not sure if it's the same as yours but I hope that helps.

I'd bet money that its a bayonet type bulb and not a festoon cause they could slip out of the socket if banged around and having it 50 something feet in the air would be a disaster......buy a bunch of different bulbs from West Marine and bring back what you don't use
