I was wondering if anybody out there built there own anchor holder instead of buying one. I have used 2 u bolts and some pvc pipe. it sits in there well but not very good construction. was wondering if anybody else had a better built one out there. thanks.

I have used two loops of rope to hold a fortress to the bow pulpit.

I actually really like your PVC pipe idea. Drop the shank into the pipe, Bob's your uncle.

pvc anchor holder

I actually took 2 small pieces and bolted them to the pulpit with the U bolts and.then slid the bar in it. Tried to make it look somewhat like other hangers it hangs there but doesnt look good. Didnt know if anybody ele tried ti make something simular.

You could probably make something like this or find one on ebay/craigslist for cheap. They work great and look pretty good too.
New, they cost around $40.

Defender has the ones Merlin shows for about $50. I made some for my V17 years ago using thick stainless strap that looked and worked great. Top loop was secured with some SS bolts to keep them in place. One strap only had a hole drilled in it, and the other had a slot cut in it. They looked very similar to the ones shown in the attachment below. Only cost a couple of bucks for the hardware and about an hours worth of work with some simple hand tools. Of course, those only would work well with a Danforth type anchor, so YMMV :)

Cheers,
Brad

One area of caution. If your sail should ever get wrapped around the anchor, go up and by hand get it off the anchor. Otherwise, I have seen many sail rip as a result for a bow holder style holding the anchor.

Installed the pipe, and tried it out last night. Slick slick slick. Of course, I've always had to bring the anchor forward from the locker to deploy it, so anything would've been an improvement.
Crazy Dave: I can see how my asymmetrical spinnaker could want to reach out and hara-kiri itself on the flukes. I'll be careful.
Incidentally, my 15lb Danforth held great in the thunderstorm last night, even dealing with a 270 degree wind shift.
