claw

I use a claw-type anchor which I keep on the bow rollers on my C-30 TR. I tie the shackle up to the pulpit to keep the chain off of the bow sprit when sailing. Works great for me in the Chesapeake. I keep my second anchor (Danforth) in the anchor locker. BILL

Have you used the Claw in Mud?

Thanks for your reply Bill, Have you used the claw anchor in mud? The lake I sail in has a really muddy bottom. I saw where some say the claw anchor isnt great in mud. However, I am not sure of the reality of mud and the claw anchor. Thanks Tom Wingo

Delta

I use a Delta fast set 14 lb. which I keep on the bowsprit. I took out the locking pin above the anchor roller and mounted a 1" stainless strap with bolts over the roller using the holes left so that there is about a 5" gap. I then feed the anchor through it and keep it tied down there witha staninless eyebolt near the end of the anchor shaft when sailing. The strap holds it to the bowsprit. Anchor is easy to get to and lower/raise and chain stores in anchor locker. I use 80 ft of chain but only because I had it. Would use 30' if I had to buy new. Danfort hangs inthe holder in anchor locker as well. I can send photo if you like. This anchor holds well in mud and sand. Have not had to use it elsewhere.

Delta 14

Thanks David, Thanks for your reply. I was looking at the Delta 14 the otherday at West Marine. That anchor seems like the one to go with considering the muddy conditions here. I would appreciate it if you would email me a picture. My email is togo_7@hotmail.com. How hard is it to pull out of the mud? Thanks Tom
