Its always a bit concerning that first night on the hook wondering / hoping you will not drag. I mainly anchor is anchorages I am very familiar with and rarely have an issue and I think its important to always research and understand the holding capabilities of your ground tackle and ground conditions.

As a back-up however, I did find a nifty iPhone app called DragQueen which is basically an alarm that goes off if your distance moves greater than a pre-programmed variance (ie 100 feet from where you set your anchor and set the device to register location). I do have an anchor alarm on my GPS buts its at the helm and hard to hear in the v-berth. Anyway, I tried this one out on land by setting and walking beyond the variance and sure enough a load audible alarm went off on my phone. Nice because I can keep it near me in my bunk. There seem to be a few other anchor drag apps -- this one was free. I am not trying to promote anything here and have no affiliation with these apps...I thought it would be a neat backup to your existing best anchoring practices.

Anyone have experiences to share with iPhone / iPad apps for anchor drag - do share...

I've used Drag Queen before. Only real issue is you have to keep the iPhone charged otherwise it will drain your battery and the phone will power off.

I have that app too. I leave the phone on charge all night to avoid this.

The app clearly explains this issue.

love Drag Queen, phone lives on the charger all night, no problem. I think two other nav apps I have also feature a drag alarm, but DQ is just two easy.

I use Anchor Alert too. Works well assuming you have decent cell service.
