Anchor chain rubbing strip

Curious if the B49 or similar vessels have issues with the chain rubbing on the gelcoat between the windlass and the anchor stem when deploying and retreiving the anchor. The boat is new to me and on first use I noticed the damage. Rollers are good and there is no evidence of anything being used by the previous owner. Picture attached. Any takers? Thanks.

Not unusual or unique to your boat.

Congrats on a beautiful new boat. Pictures would be great to see.

As @sail sfbay suggests adding something to rub against will help protect the gel coat on your boat. This type of stuff just happens on a boat. Typical sacrificial surfaces are pieces of wood or star board. They work just like a cutting board in your kitchen. You cut the board not your counter.

Thank you for the info, I will rig something now that I know. The Beneteau parts website does have a rubbing strip but they are out if stock. Bummer I didn’t see any need prior and it’s been in service since 2009!

Is there a reason why the chain is off-center that much?

It must be the photo but the chain is pretty much centered on the left hand guide of the anchor stem.

On my B331, I had some old teak pieces that I through bolted. I leave them unfinished with countersunk bolts. The chain runs well over them. A bit of a design flaw I would say. Maybe designers don't sail.
