Anchor Chain for Windlass

We have a 1995 Benetea 42s7 and would like to add chain to our anchor. We have a manual windlass and I haven't been able to find any markings or anything to say what size chain to get. I have a manual for the windlass but it gives a range but it's not specific for our boat. Thought I'd go to the local boat store and get some samples to see what fits in the windlass but they wouldn't sell in shorter lengths. Any sugestions would be helpful. Thank!

Try these guys. They'll sell you 1 foot lengths. It's probably 5/16 or 3/8 BBB. Or remove the chain gypsy and take it to the marine store.

The chain gypsy should have a number and/or size stamped into it. You never said the brand.
