I'm modifying my anchor locker for a windlass and also upgrading ground tackle. Anchor will either be an Manson supreme or Rocna. Haven't decided yet. Was looking into chain and got immediate sticker shock. ~ $5/ft for 5/16 ACCO HT. HT is what the gypsy requires. I was planning on somewhere around 150' chain (plus rode) as some anchorages going up to Alaska can be somewhat deep and I can well afford the weight forward. I did find some chain for $2.98 from Titan chain (Fisheries Supply in Seattle) which if you follow the bunny trail goes to Canadian Metals which makes the Rocna. If I choose the Manson, then some logic says that I go with the ACCO chain. If I choose the Rocna anchor, then I should be able to go with the Titan chain. Now, I'm not one to categorically bash China but I do believe in you get what you pay for. But this stops and makes me think a bit. The searches on SBO seems to sway toward the Manson but they're a year old.....Any discussion?
