An "off the wall" hurricane prep question

Although it's still too early to tell for sure, it's beginning to look like Sandy is headed our way. Due to financial and time constraints, I can't haul before the storm so the boat will be riding it out at the dock. I know to double up all lines, and make sure everything is buttoned up tight, (yes the sails are already down) but I was wondering whether it's a better idea to lighten the boat as much as possible or does not make that much differance? I was thinking things like emptying water tanks, removing extra stuff, etc..

Within reason its about the same. I would look at it more from a loss perspective. If the boat were to be lost, is there anything aboard you would like to keep?

When you double up, if you can get some chafe protection for the lines, that may be a good idea as well. And I know you said your sails were down but if you haven't done so, do the rest of your canvas as well.

My boat was hauled last week and it will be the first major storm it's been out of the water for. Hopefully she'll do ok! Gonna head down on Saturday to take the boom down and make sure all is good!
