is it possible to find out the history (insurance claims) of a boat by the hull numbers? I know you can do it on a car by using the VIN, they have a data base that insurance companies use. Do they have the same set up for boats?
Data on vessels collected by the Coast Guard are available at this web site: http://psix.uscg.mil/ You can search by name, hull number, and many other fields. Presumably, if a vessel had an accident that caused more than $500 in damage, the Coast Guard would have a record of it. Phil Decker S/V "Catmandu"
