getting ready to paint the new mast, when and if it ever arrives. I am not sure how to determine the amount of paint needed. I will use "perfection" and will do all the prep needed before using it, but I don't have any idea how much 2 part paint is needed for one coat. I plan on putting a minimum of 2 coats. Any Ideas? Mast length is 40 feet and about 5 inches "wide" and 7 inches "front to back", also will paint the boom and spreaders. Think 2 quarts will do it?

Estimate the Square Feet

It appears that there is quite a bit less than 80 square feet on the mast. There should be something that says how many square feet a quart will cover, however, I would bet that one quart will work.

Gallon

Tim did a great job in illustrating the process. You may just want to pick up a gallon though - it also depends on the application process. Are you rolling or spraying? If rolling on - you may need more but in either case a gallon would be plenty and probably cost about the same (or slightly more) as 2 quarts. Rob

They don't sell it here but

The best price I found a year ago was at Boatersland.com. I paid about $34/qt. It is at $44.99 now. WM is $74.99. Used to be in the low 60s. If you have a good relationship with your local WM mgr, he may match.

Nice Job!

I did my mast on a Ranger 29. The mast has been described as a "Tree trunk". It took one quart of Interlux 1 part epoxy for two coats over the primer. I found the one part epoxy to be fairly durable and stood up to the dings that occur in the stepping of the mast and of the halyards etc, banging against it. The two part should do even better. I wasn't looking to attain a finish nearing a sprayed on finish. I was pleased with the result.
