I've been watching the America's Cup races and the boats are evenly matched. The skippers and crew are what's making it win or lose. The Swiss are using an American helmsman. Very interesting. Anyone else following the races?

Very Exciting -

Agree it's very exciting so here on the West Coast I get up at five AM and watch the races. Wondered if anyone knows what happens when a crew member falls off a race boat as almost happened yesterday? - nobody seems to be wearing any sort of life preserver. Mike T.

East Coast times

It's on in real time (I think) at 08:30 a.m. ET on Versus, then re-rum at 6:00 p.m. The race doesn't seem to start until 9:00 (6:30), put the pre-race is pretty good. Very close races so far in the America's Cup. Race three was the closest race I've seen.

you need to finish with the same crew with whom you started or you lose. If the tended picked up the bowman and brought him back aboard, it would have been a penalty so it's not something they consider a life preserver issue as the rest of the crew would have probably killed him anyway for falling off. :)

George, ah, Terry is tactician for the Kiwis.

Alinghi is the Swiss Consortium and their helmsman is Ed Baird from St. Petersburg, FL. The Tactician for Alinghi is Butterworth, a Kiwi. I know is confusing. Check your TIVO.

Excellent racing so far

The series has shown the basic principles of sailboat racing in no uncertain terms: sail as fast as you can for as short a distance as you can while making as few mistakes as possible and hope a dash or two of luck. Since the boats and crews are so closely matched, mistakes and luck may well be the deciding factors in the outcome of this series. My only gripe? The commercial breaks are too long. You can see the races here

Hi guys, I live in Spain. Our time for the races is 3pm (Spanish time). Perfect to see them at work (I use Zattoo, a sw that broadcast TV signal). In any case, you can see the summary of the races here: http://www.americascupanywhere.com/internet_tv The cup is really interesting now. New Zealand and Swiss are the best competitors. The races just keep getting better...

I am not a big race fan by any stretch of the imagination, but these two teams just blow me away. This has been a great series, and it keeps getting better.

What's really cool is my

digital video recorder. NO COMMERCIALS! It records the race as it's broadcast. I just check the menu and there it is! Then I skip the first hours hype and watch the racing. Did you guys watch yesterdays race? Wow!

And Saturdays race was one of the best ever.

That's 'ever' as in 160 years! Lordy. I was on the edge of my seat. Well, sorta. Kept stopping the playback on my recorder so I could watch the Mariners win their seventh straight. :) But when a ballgame commercial came on I just went back to the boat racing. I found myself calling for tacks and jibs. I also made the non-call at the end of the race that assured victory. (no, I won't say who won) But what a race!

There were times during that race...

I wanted to jump on board and slap the skipper silly for making such an obvious miscalculation. I know what you mean.

WOW...What a finish!

And I've got it on tape! Some great manuevering by both boats (unfortunately, in the end, the Kiwi's were just a little bit too tight and had to do the penalty turn). Just 2 seconds separating the boats across the line...one for history books now. Congratulations to Alinghi (and to New Zealand for that matter...really exciting stuff).

Bogus penalty

What a bad call by race officials. Its like having game 7 in a NBA finals decided by a minor foul. NZ avoided Alinghi and didnt cause Alinghi to alter their course. Too bad it was decided by a penalty.
