Amazon eclipse glasses

I got the email yesterday, but did not see anything about a recall....??? It was more a warning that the glasses they sell/sold are not on the NASA or AAS approved list (Qty 5 makers). And that the vendor had not provided a response as to where they sourced the lens material from? They are ISO and CE certified.
Treat your eyes gently, but the glasses I got from Amazon worked as expected in a short test of sun sights today.
The question is ....just how is NASA and the AAS in a position to certify the copious glasses out there, and on such short notice .....???

I got mine from www.2017eclipse.org. They're on NASA's list of approved vendors. To answer how you know NASA knows best, you gotta trust somebody.

I just seen that some selled for $4.95 for a pack of 5 with free shipping. The catch is that free shipping would deliver them around August 25 but for expedited shipment (not guaranteed but expedited) for an additional 14 bucks they should reach by August 19 depending on the arrival of the scheduled shipment from manufacturer. Amazon should pull these scammers out of the service.
Check your local stores. Lowes here in Sumter has them, so do Walmart and all the hardware stores. I've heard of places giving them away free as a promotion. Just check the label. And don't be afraid to ask the store if the glasses meet the standards.
Even when wearing them be careful. The frame on mine doesn't block periferal light around it. I put them on making sure my eyes are covered before looking up. Oh, and if you can see *anything* other than the sun they aren't doing they're job. You should see nothing at all when not looking at the sun.

I bought 5 pair from an Amazon vendor and later got the email saying that they may not be safe to wear. Amazon returned my money. The glasses are stamped with the proper ISO rating, so I'm thinking maybe they are ok. Put them on and stared at a bright incandescent light bulb and could see nothing. So, tried looking at the noon day sun and could see a small orangey ball. It actually seemed darker than my sextant sun lens. They should be fine for the eclipse, which I am lucky to add, will be 2 minutes and 21 seconds of totality over our little cabin in NC.
