After a long cold winter, this video really got my blood pumping. The kite/camera thing is clever but to my relatively inexperienced eye, this small boat sailor appears to really know his stuff. I'm interested in the make/model of this boat - any ideas?

Cool

someone has to have been working the camera remotely.

Looks like a Pacific Seacraft Dana 24

to me, very nice boats, but a lot of wood to maintain. I've attached their website, take a look at the photos.

Very Cool Video!!!!

I too am suffering from the LOS disease.(lack of sailing) It has been over two weeks!!!! We had very nice sailing with the grandkids but then the wind got to be too much. We anchored out and it blew all night and got colder. With a 4 year old and a 6 year old in the crew I was wanting to be very conservative. After drinking coffee and snacking while watching birds all morning we finally gave up and motored back to the marina. Fortunately the marina was situated so that docking wasn't too hard. This weekend my wife has to work so it means single handing which means that I need winds of 10-15 knots. Higher winds makes docking too difficult for me to do alone.

I think it's self working

The camera must be hard rigged to look down the kite string no matter how the kite is hanging. I am going to try it this year.

Most video kites are remote controlled by a radio

of the type used for model planes. Most use 2 channels and two servos. This allows the camera to be tilted up and down and rotated side to side, to be able to always find its target. You can go on You Tube and see other vids of this same sailor. In one of them (I dont remember which) you can see that he adjusts camera from cockpit with a transmitter

Just when you thought it was great to even get a

still picture of your boat under sail... Way cool, I think this was written up in a recent Sail or Cruising World article.

That Was

That was Chris Humann's Dana 24 "Carrol E". Videos were taken with a kite cam. Last half or so of the video was taken while Chris was sailing from SF to Hawaii in the Single Handed Transpac in '06. Truly spectacular video. Like to kite cam info here: http://arch.ced.berkeley.edu/kap/kaptoc.html and here: http://scotthaefner.com/kap/

COOL!

Obviously that guy knows his stuff and that boat is VERY well equipped. But I don't think I'd be comfortable hanging a vidiocamera on a kite string but I'm glad he did!

I've seen

A stillshot camera mounted to a camera before. Some pretty cool shots from that. An example
