Mine is bad too

My AM reception is poor as well. I extended the antana and it didn't do a thing. My electrician said to buy a better radio but my research shows this one to be pretty much top of the line. I wonder why the poor receiption.

AM Reception Problems

Jim: I'm on my 3rd Hunter and have had poor AM reception on all three. However, I've found several reasons (and solutions): 1. Shorepower: This is notorious for causing AM interference. If your reception is better under sail, that's probably the main problem. To test, take a portable AM radio and move it near your shorepower lines. Does the hum increase? 2. Inverter: Try to keep your radio (and antenna/wire) as far from the inverter as possible. 3. Other motors: A filter on the power line for your radio will help, but other motors such as compressors, etc. will cause this noise. My main problem was shore power. If at dock and I have to listen to my favorite show on AM radio, I keep a portable radio that I can move away from things that cause interference. To find my other problems, I turned off everything on the boat, then started powering things up until I found the culprit. These things should help, you're closer to Dallas than I am, so you should be able to get good reception. I can pick up WBAP and KRLD from Texoma with reasonably good luck. dd

Thanks for AM HELP

David Thanks for the tip on shore power. It makes sense and I will try it this week.

Splitter

We use a splitter on our Hunter 40's mast-top VHF antenna. The particular splitter I bought at Boater's World is manufactured by Shakespeare. Carl Reitz S/v WINDROSE
