I hooked up a new AM-FM CD player in my 23.5. Can anyone tell me how to get the AM radio to function. I recieve FM ok but not the best. I get no AM stations. Is it the grounding on the antenna or what ? Does anyone have any advice ? I miss my talk radio on the water !!! Fred

Stupid Question, but I have to ask

Do you have an antenna connected to the radio? If not, you can buy a dummy load that connects to your antenna wire. You should be able to find one at any marine store that sells electronics. You can also pick up a converter to use with your VHF antenna if you have one. This works a bit better than the dummy antenna. Russell s/v summer Luvin'

Yes I have a standard car antenna connected.

I hooked up a standard car antenna but the am reception is not functional. The old radio would not recieve am either. Thanks Any other suggestions

Dont cut the antenna cable to shorten....

My father recently installed a radio in his power boat, he cut the antenna cable to shorten it ... FM worked good, AM was gone.. we replaced the cable and everything woked good..AM and FM... Good Luck..... Greg s/v Passin'Wind

Fred, I have a converter box that uses the masthead VHF antenna for the AM/FM radio. This works exceptionally well. I bought mine in Canada so can't help you with a stateside source. Bottom line, it works better than any other alternative I know of......period! Best regards, Fred.

am reception

Because the 23.5 trailers, I am guessing that you don't have a vhf antenna, and therefore a converter isn't an otion. You didn't specify the antenna you are using, but I imagine that it is a "car antenna" plugged into the radio. This will work if the antenna is vertical above deck, but not if it is tucked in somewhere sideways. Without getting into mounting antenna's, try connecting a wire from whatever antenna you are using, to one of the stays. Fm will probably suffer, but it will help Am. To improve Fm use a 1/4 wave Fm dipole, from radio shack, about $5.
