Probably not, Andrew.. I think he is saying that he is getting a new shaft and having the tapered propeller fit and keyway machined on the shaft blank and the coupling bored to fit the new shaft. The new shaft should be the same nominal size so the Cutless will be the same.
exactly

probably the best 300 bucks you could spend.

off season rate?
I don't think so.. It seems to be the going rate for this type of thing both online and local prices.

Actually that is VERY cheap. Please make sure they are doing this properly. Even my wholesale cost for this is more than what you're paying. I have seen some work done by the "on-line" shafting shops and it can be well.... sub par at best.. The last one I came across cost an additional $200.00 for truing, properly re-fitting and facing the coupling, the set screws were not spotted the keys fit incorrectly and after all that it was a sub par shafting material and not AQ22.... If this is a reputable shop you got a heck of a deal..

You want:

Aqualoy 22 Shafting
Coupling fitted & faced (must be a light press fit if straight coupling)
Shaft run-out checked and under .003"
Key's must fit snugly
Coupling end key should be SS
Prop end key should be brass
Set screw holes must be spotted
Should come with new prop nuts

If going new a split coupling is a very nice option..

Aqualoy 22? is that overkill for a 19hp motor?

i visited the shop last night, he gave me a tour of the place and we discussed all the options.. we are going with Aqualoy 19. is that a mistake? other than your recommendation of the 22 all the rest on the list are covered :)

do i need to call him and ask to bump up to 22?

Thanks.

Not necessarily about HP but more about corrosion resistance. While AQ19 is certainly better than 316SS, I use nothing but AQ22. Its ability to resist pitting & crevice corrosion are significantly better than AQ19.

Just curious as to the quoted price difference. My shop sells very little AQ19 and then usually only on the lakes...

its been awhile... but the cost difference was about $20. not a big deal.

i completed the job a month ago, new cutlas in, new PSS, a shaft saver, he glass beaded the prop and i painted with new antifoul paint, and with that the job is done.. total cost for everything came in just under $650 with the PSS, Machine shop work and the shaft saver.

now i just hope it all works and lasts...
